park avenue pied a terre

A recent renovation had left this prewar New York City apartment move-in ready, but devoid of personality and lacking in natural light. Working within the existing space, Shelley created an interior that incorporates modern and vintage style along with sumptuous appointments that match her clients’ cosmopolitan tastes.

To brighten the interior, she introduced shimmering reflective surfaces and used lighting to create pools of illumination throughout the home. Light-colored rugs elevate the black lacquer floors, while the judicial use of color and texture—from the refined gray grass cloth in the husband’s study to the lively works by well-known metropolitan-area artists—creates visual interest against a serene monochromatic backdrop.

Furnished with a selection of antiques and contemporary Italian furniture, the apartment recalls the glamour of vintage motion pictures and the timeless allure of metropolitan living.
