Sustainable Style
This plan for an empty nester couple includes a carefully edited selection of their favorite art, as well as classic and antique furnishings, collected over several decades. Shelley encourages her clients to reuse what they love, as a statement of personal style.
Here, Shelley has reworked the layout of a 70s-era Cape and amplified its interior architecture with well-crafted molding and trim details. With key elements—stairs, openings, and cabinetry—picked out in black for contrast, the home’s white walls provide the simplicity of a gallerist’s backdrop for the beloved objects and thoughtful arrangements that reveal her clients’ tastes and passions.
Incorporating their existing treasures limits the shopping list of new acquisitions to just those things that complete the home that the couple envisioned. It makes the project an earth-friendly endeavor that the designer underscores by specifying natural and organic materials wherever possible.
